Chess Tickets & Information

Ticket Tip:

Chess will play its final performance on Broadway on June 21, 2026.

This fall, see powerhouse trio Tony Award® winner Aaron Tveit (Moulin Rouge!), acclaimed stage and screen star Lea Michele (Funny Girl, Glee), and breakout talent Nicholas Christopher (Sweeney Todd, Hamilton) in CHESS, a seductive showdown of love, loyalty, and power on a global stage. As two of the greatest chess players in the world compete for something beyond victory, the woman between them is caught in a high-stakes battle of desire and devotion.

Featuring a legendary score by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA and EGOT winner Tim Rice (Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar), an exhilarating new book by Danny Strong (Dopesick, The Butler), and direction by Tony winner Michael Mayer (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Funny Girl), CHESS is Broadway’s boldest move yet and the must-see event of the season.

Step into the tense world of international mind games with CHESS on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre, a Cold War-era musical that turns a world championship match into a gripping battle of strategy, politics, and desire. Set against glamorous global locales and high-stakes negotiations, the story follows American champion Freddie Trumper, his Soviet rival Anatoly Sergievsky, and Florence Vassey, the woman caught between them as love, loyalty, and national pride collide on and off the board.

Perfect for fans of epic love stories, political thrillers, and classic 1980s musical theatre, CHESS is a must-see show when planning Broadway nights out or looking for unforgettable things to do in New York.

About The Imperial Theatre

The Shuberts conceived of the Imperial Theatre, their 50th New York City venue, as a home to musical theater hits, and their dream has been realized many times over. The playhouse was constructed as a replacement for the Shubert’s 20-year-old (and out-of-date) Lyric Theatre.

Chess is currently playing at the Imperial Theatre.

The Imperial Theatre has 1,457 seats and is one of the Shubert Organization‘s 17 Broadway theatres.
