About This Theatre

Since its opening in 2008, DPAC (Durham Performing Arts Center) has become the center for live entertainment in North Carolina. Recognized for its contemporary design, DPAC features 2,700 seats, intimate sightlines, and state-of-the-art sound and video. Ranked annually among the top-ten theaters in America by three leading national magazines that cover live entertainment events and venues, DPAC attracts over 500,000 guests per year to its 200+ events.

With a mission of presenting one-of-a-kind live entertainment events, DPAC truly has “something for everyone,” hosting more than 200 performances a year, including spectacular touring Broadway productions, high-profile concert and comedy events, family shows and the heralded American Dance Festival. Owned by the City of Durham and operated under the direction of Nederlander and Professional Facilities Management (PFM), since 2011 DPAC has been listed as the #1 performing arts organization in the region by the Triangle Business Journal.

Policies

Payment

American Express, Visa, and Mastercard are accepted for ticket purchases at the box office.

Refunds/Exchanges

Generally, all ticket sales are final. For questions about ticket refunds, lost tickets, and exchanges, email guestservice[email protected].

Dress Code

There is no required dress code. For all performances, attire should be comfortable and appropriate for the occasion.

Children

Children under the age of 6 are not allowed at most DPAC performances.

Late Seating

Most shows require that the ushers hold late arrivals in the lobby until a suitable pause in the program. The timing of allowing late arrivals into the seating area is determined by the show and designed to cause as little disruption as possible to other guests and the performers on stage.


Amenities

Concessions

The theatre has three lobbies, one on each floor. There is a permanent snack and beverage window in each lobby. Each lobby also has a stand-alone bar.

Restrooms

Restrooms are located throughout DPAC for your convenience in the Entry Lobby, Orchestra Lobby, and Grand Tier Lobby. All restrooms include accessible facilities. Family and gender neutral, single-use restrooms are located just off the Entry Lobby on the ground floor. Baby Changing Facilities are located in all public restrooms.

Cloakroom

Coat and camera check is availably at Guest Services in the Entry Lobby on the ground floor.


Parking

There are five parking decks surround the DPAC. In total, there are over 4,500 parking spaces within 1/10 to 3/10 mile from the center.


Security

Patron Security

For the protection of its patrons, theatre managers and private security personnel are on duty during all performances. DPAC staff have been trained to intervene where necessary to help ensure that expectations are met, and guests are encouraged to report any inappropriate behavior to the nearest usher, security guard, or DPAC staff member.

Bag Checks

All guests and their bags are subject to inspection before entry. This inspection may include the use of metal detectors. Restricted items include, but are not limited to: alcohol, cameras, glass bottles, and weapons of any kind. Backpacks and any oversized bags larger than 12 inches x 12 inches x 10 inches are also restricted.

Accessible Seating

DPAC offers wheelchair accessible seating throughout all seating levels allowing for a choice in view and ticket prices. In addition there are also seating options for guests with visual, hearing and mobility impairments. Bariatric seating and seating for persons of size are also available.


Wheelchair-Accessible Restroom

Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located on all levels of DPAC. A companion restroom is also available and located on the ground floor lobby.


Assisted-Listening Devices

The DPAC offers access to the Williams Sound FM Listening System, which was purchased and installed in the fall of 2017. This state-of-the-art system features pristine FM quality sound and multiple volume settings for guests seated in all sections of DPAC’s seating area.


Service Animals

Service animals are welcome inside the DPAC building and must remain on a leash or in a harness at all times. If you intend to bring a service animal to an event, please notify your ticket representative at the time of purchase so that an aisle seat may be reserved for you.
