In his first show since departing Moulin Rouge! The Musical last January, the Tony winner now stars in Pictures From Home alongside theater icons Nathan Lane and Zoë Wanamaker at Studio 54. Burstein took some time to answer 5 questions for Broadway Direct, telling us about the life-altering play introduced to him by his father, his inspiring co-stars, and the New York restaurant that “feels like home.”

1. What inspired you to become an actor?

I became an actor because I loved to read plays. I wasn’t much of a reader until my father gave me a play (Peer Gynt) and then my imagination ran with it. It opened up a place in my heart that I never knew about. And I’ve been in love with the art form ever since.

2. Who in your field inspires you?

Currently: Nathan Lane & Zoe Wanamaker. But anyone who endeavors to be a part of this business inspires me. It’s not an easy life. People who dedicate their lives to the theater have my deepest admiration.

3. What will audiences be most excited about seeing in Pictures From Home?

I think it’s a beautiful play that makes people laugh out loud in one moment and weep with compassion the next. I think people will recognize themselves and their families in the play. It’s a play they’ll be talking about for a while.

4. If you didn’t need to sleep at night, what would you spend your time doing?

Well, I don’t, lol. I usually spend that time reading. Or answering emails.

5. What is your favorite NYC spot?

I guess that would have to be Joe Allen. I always run into friends there. I love the staff, the food, the atmosphere. It just feels like home.

You can catch Danny Burstein in Pictures From Home at Studio 54, now playing a limited engagement through April 30, 2023.
