It was announced today that Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal will return to Broadway next year in a revival of William Shakespeare’s Othello. The production, which will be directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon, will open in spring 2025 at a Shubert theatre to be announced. Washington will play the titular role with Gyllenhaal starring as Iago.
Washington was last seen on Broadway in the 2018 revival of The Iceman Cometh for which he received a Tony nomination. He previously won a Tony Award for his performance in the 2009 revival of Fences. Gyllenhaal received his first Tony nominations in 2020 for producing and starring in Sea Wall/A Life and for his work as a producer on Slave Play. He has also been on Broadway in Constellations and Sunday in the Park with George.
