From his performance in the original Broadway cast of Bring It On The Musical to his turn as Tobey in the recent Off-Broadway musical Teeth, Jason Gotay has been a fan favorite among theater fans. Now, he is back on Broadway in the Lincoln Center Theater production of Floyd Collins.

Starring alongside Jeremy Jordan and Lizzy McAlpine, Gotay plays Homer Collins, brother of the titular Floyd in the Adam Guettel and Tina Landau musical.
Celebrating his first Broadway opening night since Bring It On, Broadway Direct joined Gotay for the special occasion on Monday, April 21. Take a look at our opening-night questionnaire with Gotay and check out exclusive photos.
What is going through your head as you open Floyd Collins?
The word I keep coming back to is gratitude. I feel so lucky to do what I love, to tell this story, and to have an incredible team of people supporting me on and offstage. It’s been over ten years since my last Broadway show, and to return in this role, in this show, is a tremendous honor.

Who are the people you would like to thank for being with you on this journey?
It’s an impossibly long list, but it begins with my husband and my mother, who are the heart and soul of everything I do. My brother and sister. Sharone, my best friend of twenty years, who gave Homer his heartbeat. Thank you. My best friends, my incredible agents and managers, the entire cast, crew, and creative team of Floyd Collins. Every teacher and mentor I’ve ever had. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

What’s a funny moment you’ll always look back at from this preview process?
While tech and previews can be grueling, our cast gets to spend endless days and nights together, and things can get silly. I know we’ve barely started, but I already miss giggling onstage with Taylor, Jeremy, Lizzy, Marc, and Jessica. I also love doing pre-show tarot card pulls with Lizzy- always a great source of inspiration and a moment to connect with my sister. These moments are what make the experience so joyful.

What do you hope audiences will take away from Floyd Collins?
The beauty and the brevity of life, and the glory of pursuing a dream.

If you could meet your younger self for coffee, what would he say about this opening night moment?
You’re about to step onstage at the Vivian Beaumont Theater and sing “The Riddle Song” with Jeremy Jordan. Thrive.
