It was announced today that Emmy Award winner Kit Connor (Heartstopper) and Golden Globe Award winner Rachel Zegler (Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story) will make their Broadway debuts this fall in a new production of William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet.
Directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold, Romeo + Juliet will feature music by Grammy Award winner Jack Antonoff and movement by Tony Award winner Sonya Tayeh.
“With the presidential election coming up in November, I felt like making a show this fall that celebrates youth and hope, and unleashes the anger young people feel about the world they are inheriting,” said Sam Gold.

As described by the production, “The youth are f**ked. Left to their own devices in their parents’ world of violent ends, an impulsive pair of star-crossed lovers hurtle towards their inescapable fate. The intoxicating high of passion quickly descends into a brutal chaos that can only end one way.”
Romeo + Juliet will open on Broadway in fall 2024 and will mark the Broadway debuts of Kit Connor, Rachel Zegler and Jack Antonoff, who in February won his third consecutive Grammy Award for Producer of the Year, becoming only thesecond producer in history to win three years running.
Tickets for Romeo + Juliet will go on sale to the public in May 2024. More information including theatre, dates, design team and additional casting will be announced at a later date.
