This star is heading back to Broadway! Best known to the general public for her starring in the Netflix series Stranger Things, Sadie Sink will lead the Broadway premiere of John Proctor is the Villain, a new play by Kimberly Belflower.
Directed by Tony Award winner Danya Taymor (The Outsiders), John Proctor is the Villain will begin performances on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the Booth Theatre, with an opening night set for Monday, April 14.
This will mark Sink’s return to the Broadway stage. She got her start on Broadway playing the titular role in Annie and went on to act opposite Helen Mirren in 2015’s The Audience. The Stranger Things star will return to Broadway in the same season that Stranger Things: The First Shadow arrives on Broadway.

The creative team for John Proctor is the Villain will include scenic design by AMP featuring Teresa Williams, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Palmer Hefferan, projection design by Hannah Wasileski, movement direction by Tilly Evans-Krueger, intimacy coordination byAnn James, voice/dialect coaching by Gigi Buffington, and casting by Taylor Williams.
At a high school in a rural town in Georgia, an English class is studying The Crucible, but the students are more preoccupied with navigating young love, sex ed, and a few school scandals. As they delve into the American classic, the students begin to question the play’s perspective and the validity of naming John Proctor the show’s hero. With deep wells of passion and biting humor, John Proctor is the Villain is a new comedy from a major new American voice, capturing a generation in mid-transformation, running on pop music, optimism, and fury, and discovering that their future is not bound by the past.
