Wicked Receives 10 Oscar Nominations at 2025 Academy Awards

After taking the world by storm, the Wicked movie is heading into awards season. The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced today and the movie adaptation of Wicked received 10 nominations including one for Best Picture.

Among the film’s nominees are the two stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande – Erivo nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for playing Elphaba and Grande nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for playing Glinda.

The Wicked movie also received nominations in the following categories: Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects.

The Wicked films are directed by Jon M. Chu, who helmed the highly-acclaimed In the Heights film adaptation. The first part of Wicked was released on November 22, 2024, with the second part, Wicked: For Good, set to be released on November 21, 2025.

The Wicked movies star Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Ethan Slater as Boq, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, and Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.

Having recently celebrated its 21st anniversary on Broadway, Wicked is currently running at the Gershwin Theatre.
