Last seen on Broadway in Dear Evan Hansen and KPOP, Zachary Noah Piser is back on Broadway this spring in the new musical Redwood at the Nederlander Theatre. Starring alongside Tony Award winner Idina Menzel, Piser plays the role of Spencer, Menzel’s son.

Amid Redwood’s busy spring season, Piser took time to answer 5 Questions with Broadway Direct. Find out how a school club was a catalyst for the actor, what to look forward to in Redwood, and his favorite NYC spot!
1. What inspired you to become an actor?
I first dipped my toe into performing in my middle school Shakespeare Performance Club. Yes – it was as goofy as it sounds. I joined simply because my best friends were doing it, not because I had always wanted to be an actor. But I think that sense of community (and somehow instantly belonging) was the catalyst for my actor “bug.”
2. Who in your field inspires you?
Everyone doing 8 shows a week – backstage, onstage, and all the above!

3. What should audiences be excited about seeing in Redwood?
Because this production, this story, and this material are 100% original! Because it’s a sonic, visual, visceral, delectable treat! Oh, and Idina Menzel. Belting. Upside down. On a Redwood.
4. If you didn’t need to sleep at night, what would you spend your time doing?
Food is my love language, so I’d cook a heck of a lot more for myself, for others, for Scout (my dog). Or I’d be Batman. I’d probably be Batman.
5. What is your favorite NYC spot?
Currently – St. Kilda Coffee on West 44th Street, my dressing room at the Nederlander, and anywhere with Scout.
