A Christmas Carol Comes to Broadway Starring Campbell Scott

The yuletide just got a whole lot merrier on the Great White Way. The Old Vic production of A Christmas Carol, adapted from the Charles Dickens classic by Jack Thorne, is headed to Broadway for a special, eight-week engagement. Under the direction of Matthew Warchus, actor Campbell Scott will play the role of everyone’s favorite holiday humbug, Ebenezer Scrooge.

A star of stage and screen, audiences will recognize Campbell Scott from the Netflix series House of Cards. He has starred on Broadway in the Roundabout Theater Company’s revival of Noises Off,  as well as Long Day’s Journey into Night with Jason Robards and Colleen Dewhurst, Ah! Wilderness, and Hay Fever. Scott’s film credits include The Sheltering Sky; Dead Again, Dying Young, Singles, Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, Big Night, The Daytrippers, Hi-Life, Spring Forward, Lush, Roger Dodger, Loverboy, Duma, The Secret Lives of Dentists, The Dying Gaul, Music and Lyrics and The Amazing Spiderman reboots.

With previews commencing in Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre, A Christmas Carol will officially open on November 20, remaining for eight weeks and closing on January 5, 2020. Complete casting for the Broadway engagement will be announced at a later date.

The creative team will include Tony Award-winner Rob Howell (The Ferryman, Matilda), music and arrangements by Tony Award nominee Christopher Nightingale (Groundhog Day, Matilda), lighting design by Tony Award-winner Hugh Vanstone (Hillary and Clinton, Matilda), and sound design by Tony Award nominee Simon Baker (Girl from the North Country, Matilda).

“This timeless — and timely — tale of redemption welcomes theatergoers of all ages into an immersive experience that’s brimming with Christmas spirit. The production features dazzling staging, moving storytelling and 12 of the most cherished Christmas carols, including “Joy to the World,” “Silent Night,” and “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear.”
