Between Riverside and Crazy to Open on Broadway This Fall

This Pulitzer Prize-winning play will make its Broadway premiere this fall! Stephen Adly Guirgis’ Between Riverside and Crazy will begin Broadway performances November 30, 2022, at the Hayes Theater, as part of Second Stage Theater’s 2022-23 season.

Austin Pendleton returns as director of the play after directing its world premiere production back in 2014 at the Atlantic Theater Company before it transferred to Second Stage’s Off-Broadway space, the Tony Kiser Theater. Casting for the play will be announced at a later date.

City Hall is demanding more than his signature, the landlord wants him out, the liquor store is closed — and the Church won’t leave him alone. For ex-cop and recent widower Walter “Pops” Washington and his recently paroled son Junior, the struggle to hold on to one of the last great rent stabilized apartments on Riverside Drive collides with old wounds, sketchy new houseguests, and a final ultimatum in this Pulitzer Prize-winning dark comedy from Stephen Adly Guirgis. For Pops and Junior, it seems the old days are dead and gone — after a lifetime living Between Riverside and Crazy.

Second Stage Theater’s Broadway season also includes The Thanksgiving Play, which will make its Broadway premiere in spring 2023.
