The show, which marks Birbiglia’s Broadway debut as both a performer and playwright, begins previews on Thursday, October 25th at the Cort Theatre. According to the show’s website, The New One is explained as follows:  “He’s made you laugh in Sleepwalk With Me (it was a play presented by Nathan Lane, then a movie, THEN a book), My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend and “Thank God for Jokes.” (He was also really funny in that one season of “Orange Is the New Black.” And in “Billions.” And “Broad City.”) Now he’s on Broadway telling a new story in a new way with the same heart and humor we’ve come to expect.

The New One has a set design by Beowulf Boritt (Bernhardt/Hamlet, Come From Away), lighting design by Aaron Copp (Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center), and sound design by Leon Rothenberg (The Waverly Gallery). Mike Birbiglia’s The New One is produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum, Iris Smith, Triptyk Studios, Chris and Crystal Sacca, Sing Out, Louise! Productions, JAM Theatricals, Ashley DeSimone, Lucas McMahon, Joseph Birbiglia, and Ira Glass.
