Brandon Uranowitz, the two-time Tony-nominated performer for his work as the wiry psychiatrist Mendel in the Broadway revival of Falsettos and as pianist Adam Hochberg in An American in Paris, will join the 2018 Tony-winning Best Musical The Band’s Visit. Uranowitz will play the role of “Itzik.” Entering the production on October 8, 2018, he will replace John Cariani who plays his final performance on October 7.
Uranowitz dazzled audiences earlier this year playing Otto Kringelein in the New York City Center’s Encores! concert of Grand Hotel: The Musical. He juggled a variety of roles in the Manhattan Theatre Club’s celebration of Harold Prince, The Prince of Broadway. Regional credits include Torch Song Trilogy (Studio Theatre) and Broadway Bound (The Old Globe Theatre). On television, viewers can look forward to seeing Brandon in a recurring role on the Emmy-winning Best Comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. He will appear in the feature film The Kitchen (starring Melissa McCarthy) and Stage Fright.
When Brandon Uranowitz enters The Band’s Visit on October 9, he will be joining a company that includes Katrina Lenk, Sasson Gabay, Ari’el Stachel, Etai Benson, Adam Kantor, Andrew Polk, Samir Shukry, Bill Army, Joseph Kamal, Rachel Prather, Jonathan Raviv, Sharone Sayegh, Kristen Sieh, Layan Elwazani, Pomme Koch, Ahmad Maksoud, Jodi McFadden and James Rana. Musicians include Andrea Grody, Alexandra Eckhardt, Ossama Farouk, Philip Mayer, Sam Sadigursky, Jeff Theiss, Harvey Valdes and Garo Yellin.
The Band’s Visit features a compelling story about finding our commonality and celebrating diversity. “After a mix-up at the border, an Egyptian Police Band is sent to a remote village in the middle of the Israeli desert. With no bus until morning and no hotel in sight, these unlikely travelers are taken in by the locals. Under the spell of the desert sky, their lives become intertwined in the most unexpected ways. The Band’s Visit celebrates the deeply human ways music, longing and laughter can connect us all.”
The Band’s Visit was nominated for eleven 2018 Tony Awards, winning ten including Best Musical, Best Book (Itamar Moses), Best Score (David Yazbek), Best Actress in a Musical (Katrina Lenk), Best Actor in a Musical (Tony Shalhoub), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Ari’el Stachel), and Best Direction of a Musical (David Cromer). The musical currently plays at Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
