Broadway at the 2022 Grammys

The Grammys are here once again, celebrating the best that music has to offer, including musical theater! Broadway can almost always be found represented at the Grammy Awards and this year is no exception.

The nominees for this year’s Grammy Awards were revealed on November 23, with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella, Burt Bacharach and Steven Sater’s Some Lovers, Girl From the North Country, the 2020 Live Recording of Les Misérables: The Staged Concert, Stephen Schwartz’s Snapshots, and The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical receiving nominations in the Best Musical Theater Album category. In a rare occurrence, due to the pandemic shuttering Broadway for over a year, Girl From the North Country is the only Broadway musical in the category.

Previous winners of this award include Jagged Little Pill, HadestownThe Band’s Visit, Dear Evan HansenThe Color Purple, and Hamilton.

The familiar Broadway names don’t stop at that category though! Theatre favorites can also be found in the Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media category with the film adaptations of Dear Evan Hansen and In the Heights, along with the musical comedy Schimigadoon! garnering nominations, as well as David Byrne’s American Utopia being nominated for Best Music Film.

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on January 31, 2022, and air on CBS.
