Head Over Heels, the new Broadway musical featuring a score composed of the iconic songs by the popular 80s band The Go-Go’s, will open at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre on Thursday, July 26, 2018 with previews beginning on Saturday, June 23. The musical will have a Pre-Broadway engagement at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre, running from April 10, 2018through May 6, 2018.
With the news of the confirmed theater for the show’s Broadway birth, casting has also been announced for the production. The principal cast of Head Over Heels features Andrew Durand (Spring Awakening), Taylor Iman Jones (Groundhog Day), Jeremy Kushnier (Cirque Du Soleil Paramour), Bonnie Milligan (Kinky Boots tour; Broadway debut), Peppermint (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”; Broadway debut; the first trans-woman actress to create a principal role on Broadway), Tom Alan Robbins (The Ling King, original cast), Alexandra Socha (Spring Awakening) and Rachel York (Disaster!). The Head Over Heels ensemble will include Sharon Catherine Brown, Yurel Echezarreta , Lisa Finegold, Brian Flores, Ari Groover, Tanya Haglund, Arica Jackson, Gregory Liles, Gavin Lodge, Samantha Pollino, Justin Prescott, Tanner Ray Wilson, and Ricardo Zayas.
“An inspired mash-up of posh and punk, Head Over Heels is an unpredictable, Elizabethan romp about a royal family that must prevent an oracle’s prophecy of doom. In-order to save their beloved kingdom, the family embarks on an extravagant journey wrought with mistaken identities, jealous lovers, sexual awakening, scandal and self-discovery, where everything (and everyone) is not quite what it seems.”
Head Over Heels will feature a book conceived by Tony-winner Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q) and adapted by James Magruder. Direction will be by Tony-winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) and choreography by Emmy and Drama Desk nominee Spencer Liff (Hedwig and the Angry Inch). Tom Kitt (SpongeBob SquarePants, Next To Normal, American Idiot) will provide musical supervision, as well as orchestrations and arrangements.
The 80’s band The Go-Go’s, famous for such hits as “We Got the Beat,” “Get Up and Go,” “Cool Jerk,” “Vacation,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Lust to Love,” “Head Over Heels”, is made up of Charlotte Caffey, Belinda Carlisle, Gina Schock, Jane Wiedlin, and Kathy Valentin. Head Over Heels will include all the songs mentioned above, as well as hits from Carlisle’s solo career such as “Mad About You” and “Heaven is a Place on Earth.”
