CBS to Air 1978 Grease Sing Along Event in Place of Postponed Tony Awards

CBS has announced that they will air a sing along version of the 1978 musical film Grease on Sunday, June 7 at 8:30 PM, in place of the originally scheduled 2020 Tony Awards ceremony. The indefinite postponement of the Tony Awards was announced in March, in light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

The 1978 iconic film, directed by Randal Kleiser and based on the 1971 Broadway musical, stars John Travolta as the smooth-talking Danny and Olivia Newton-John as the sweet and innocent Sandy. The sing along event will feature follow-along lyrics to the movie’s fan-favorite tunes such as “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’,” “We Go Together,” and more.

CBS’s broadcast of Grease follows their new Sunday Night Movie series for every Sunday in May, which kicked off with Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark on May 3 and Forrest Gump on May 10, and will continue with Mission: Impossible on May 17, Titanic on May 24, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on May 31. Each movie airs on CBS at 8 PM.
