A Christmas Story Live! – Ana Gasteyer Joins the Cast

The live-television musical A Christmas Story, slated to play on Fox this holiday season, continues to add members to its starry cast. Joining the already announced Maya Rudolph, Matthew Broderick, Jana Krakowski, and Chris Diamantopoulos, is star of stage and screen, Ana Gasteyer. Gasteyer will play the role of Mrs. Schwartz, the mother of one of Ralphie’s friends. The role of Ralphie will be played by Andy Walken.

A Christmas Story is a musical based on the popular family film of the same name, all about a little boy growing up in the Midwest and dreaming of getting a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas. The film has become a cult classic, making a humorous account of a family and their struggles to have a nice Christmas in the face of many challenges. The musical features a score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, recent Tony Award-winners for the musical Dear Evan Hansen, and lyricists of La La Land’s Academy Award-winning song, “City of Stars.” The duo will compose a handful of new songs for the live television event, with Jonathan Tolins and Robert Cary adapting the book.

Best known for her work on Saturday Night Live, Gasteyer currently stars in two television series: Lady Dynamite and People of Earth, as well as recurring roles on the broadcast series The Goldbergs and Great News. Among Gasteyer’s film work, she has appeared in Mean Girls, What Women Want, The WomenReefer Madness: The Movie Musical and Dick. On the theatrical stage, she has appeared in A New Brain and in Broadway productions of The Rocky Horror Show, The Royal Family and starring as Elphaba in Wicked.

A Christmas Story Live! will air Sunday, December 17 (7-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on Fox.
