DeMarius Copes Joins the Cast of Dear Evan Hansen Movie

DeMarius Copes has joined the cast of the upcoming Dear Evan Hansen movie, as reported by Deadline. Copes has been in the original Broadway cast of Mean Girls, and most recently was a member of the Philip Company touring production of Hamilton.

Copes will be making his feature debut playing Oliver, one of Zoe Murphy’s best friends. Previously announced, the role of Zoe Murphy will be played by Kaitlyn Dever. Tony-winner Ben Platt is scheduled to return to play the title role in this movie. Also announced for the cast are Oscar-winner Julianne Moore as Evan’s mom Heidi, Amy Adams as Cynthia Murphy, Danny Pino as Larry Murphy, Amandla Stenberg as Alana Beck, Colton Ryan as Connor Murphy, and Nik Dodani as Jared Kleinman.

A release date or production deadline has not yet been announced.

Steven Levenson, who wrote the book for the stage musical, also wrote the script for this upcoming film adaptation. Stephen Chbosky, most well known for directing and writing The Perks of Being a Wallflower as well as writing the screenplay for Rent and Beauty and the Beast, is slated to direct. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will produce for their Universal-based Marc Platt Productions.
