As previously announced, popular Filipino actress Vino Morales is joining the cast of Here Lies Love on Friday, September 22, 2023, making her Broadway debut in the role of Aurora Aquino for a limited guest engagement through Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the Broadway Theatre. Here Lies Love is committed to featuring various guest stars from the Philippines in the role of Aurora Aquino, which was originated by co-producer Lea Salonga, to showcase the country’s abundance of talent. This production marked the first time Salonga played a Filipino role on the Broadway stage.
From the minds of Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award winner David Byrne (concept, music and lyrics) and Grammy Award winner Fatboy Slim (music), Here Lies Love tells the story of Imelda Marcos’ rise to power and subsequent fall at the hands of the Philippine People Power Revolution. Developed & directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers, with choreography by Olivier Award nominee Annie-B Parson, Here Lies Love has transformed the Broadway Theatre into a dance club where the audience is immersed in the story on the dance floor or in traditional theater seating. The musical began performances Saturday, June 17, 2023, ahead of an official opening night on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
