Funny Girl Broadway Revival to Launch National Tour

It was announced today that the Broadway revival of Funny Girl will launch a North American Tour this September. The tour will officially open at Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, RI from September 9-16, 2023, before continuing to more than 30 cities coast-to-coast, including Atlanta, GA, and Detroit, MI.

“We are immensely proud of this revival of Funny Girl,” said producers Sonia Friedman, Scott Landis, and David Babani, “It’s been 27 years since Funny Girl last toured the country and we are excited to introduce this classic musical to a new generation of theatergoers.”

The cast, including who will be playing the role of Fanny Brice, has not yet been revealed. Additional tour cities will be announced at a later date.

Tony Award winner Michael Mayer directs this brand-new Funny Girl, featuring the classic score by Tony, Grammy, and Academy Award winner Jule Styne and lyrics by Tony Award nominee and Grammy Award winner Bob Merrill, (comprising additional songs from Styne & Merrill). The original book by Isobel Lennart, from an original story by Miss Lennart, is revised by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.

The revival is currently on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre starring Lea Michele as Fanny Brice, with Tovah Feldshuh as Mrs. Brice, Ramin Karimloo as Nick Arnstein, and Jared Grimes as Eddie Ryan. They are joined by Peter Francis James as Florenz Ziegfeld, Ephie Aardema as Emma/Mrs. Nadler, Debra Cardona as Mrs. Meeker, Toni DiBuono as Mrs. Strakosh, Martin Moran as Tom Keeney, and an acting company that includes Miriam Ali, Amber Ardolino, Daniel Beeman, Colin Bradbury, Kurt Csolak, John Michael Fiumara, Leslie Donna Flesner, Afra Hines, Masumi Iwai, Aliah James, Jeremiah James, Danielle Kelsey, Stephen Mark Lukas, Alicia Lundgren, John Manzari, Liz McCartney, Connor McRory, Katie Mitchell, Justin Prescott, Mariah Reives, Leslie Blake Walker, and Julie Benko, who performs the role of Fanny Brice on Thursdays.
