International Pop Star Cody Simpson to Join Anastasia

The hit Broadway musical Anastasia will have an international pop star joining its ranks. Cody Simpson, who hails from Australia and has been heard around the world over, will play the role of Dmitry, currently portrayed by Zach Adkins who will play his final performance on November 25. Simpson starts his tenure in the production at Broadway’s Broadhurst Theatre on November 29, 2018.

Simpson, who was discovered and signed by Atlantic Records in 2009, has released multiple records. He has toured with Justin Bieber, and started his own band, Cody Simpson & the Tide which had a successful debut with the EP Wave One, “Underwater”. He recently performed for the Queen of England at Buckingham Palace and was a speaker at the United Nations Ocean Conference as the UN Development Program’s Ocean Advocate.

Cody Simpson will join a cast that also includes Alex Aquilino, Lauren Blackman, Kathryn Boswell, Maria Briggs, Kyle Brown, Justin Scott Brown, Kristen Smith Davis, Colby Dezelick, Janet Dickinson, Wes Hart, Anika Lore Hatch, Ken Krugman, Dustin Layton, Brian Munn, Kenneth Michael Murray, Delilah Rose Pellow, James A. Pierce III, Molly Rushing, Tally Sessions, Jennifer Smith, Lyrica Woodruff, and Kelli Youngman.

Anastasia featured a score by Lynn Ahrens (lyrics) and Stephen Flaherty (music), and a book by Terrence McNally. The show is directed by Darko Tresnjak. Anastasia “transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family.”
