Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, the hit jukebox musical that won a Best Actress in a Musical Tony Award for Jessie Mueller in 2014, will play its final performance this fall. When the production at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre takes its final bow, it will have played 60 preview performances and 2,418 regular performances, surpassing the original production of Annie and the landmark 1998 revival of Cabaret to become the 27th longest-running musical (and the 2nd longest running “bio-musical”) in Broadway history. Beautiful: The Carole King Musical will say goodbye to Broadway on October 27, 2019, but will continue to tour, embarking on its fifth year.
Telling the story of the life and awe-inspiring career of pop icon Carole King, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical features as book by Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni, and choreography by Josh Prince. Of course, the musical mines the songbooks of Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil to make up its eclectic score of pop hits. Beautiful: The Carole King Musical opened on Broadway on January 13, 2014 and went on two win a variety of awards including Tonys, Oliviers, and Grammys.
Producers Paul Blake and Mike Bosner commented on the forthcoming end of Beautiful’s tenure on Broadway, “The remarkable run we’ve enjoyed on Broadway, and continue to enjoy from coast-to-coast and around the globe, is a tribute to the incredible artists involved, from the inimitable Carole King, and Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, to Douglas McGrath and Marc Bruni, our entire design team, and every single cast member who has lent their talent to our productions. There is no way to adequately express our awe or gratitude for every single person in our Beautiful family.”
“Beautiful – The Carole King Musical has thrilled Broadway with the inspiring true story of one woman’s remarkable journey from teenage songwriter to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. From the string of pop classics she wrote for the biggest acts in music to her own life-changing, chart-busting success with Tapestry, Beautiful takes you back to where it all began – and takes you on the ride of a lifetime. Featuring over two dozen pop classics, including “You’ve Got a Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “Up on the Roof,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling,” “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” and “Natural Woman,” this crowd-pleasing international phenomenon is filled with the songs you remember – and a story you’ll never forget.”
