Wicked Movie Casting

Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, & Keala Settle Join Cast of Wicked Movies

After the news this week of who will be playing Boq and who will be playing Madame Morrible in the Wicked movies, even more casting has been revealed. Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, and Keala Settle are among the names announced to be boarding the two-part film project.

Marissa Bode will make her feature film debut in the role of Nessarose, Elphaba’s sister. Just like her character, the actress uses a wheelchair and has been performing since a young age. Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang will take on the role of Pfannee alongside Bronwyn James who will play ShenShen, both students at Shiz University.

Rounding out the latest casting news is Tony Award nominee Keala Settle, known to many for her turn in the film The Greatest Showman and to Broadway audiences as one of the original stars of Waitress. Settle will play the role of Miss Coddle, a role not named in the original musical. She is also joined by Aaron Teoh and Colin Michael Carmichael who will play Avaric and Nikidik, respectively.

They all join a cast that includes Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, and Ethan Slater as Boq, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.

The Wicked film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, who helmed the recently released In the Heights film adaptation. Original composer Stephen Schwartz will adapt the screenplay with Winnie Holzman, who wrote the book for the musical, and producer of the musical, Marc Platt, is set to produce the film. Wicked is now set to be released on successive Christmas holidays, with the first of the two coming to theaters December 2024.
