Sea Wall/A Life to Transfer to Broadway with Gyllenhaal and Sturridge

This summer the play-pairing Sea Wall/A Life, which just completed a run at The Public Theatre, will transfer to Broadway for a limited engagement. Following the production to Broadway’s Hudson Theatre will be the stars of the Off-Broadway production, Jake Gyllenhaal (Sunday in the Park with George) and Tom Sturridge (Orphans). Carrie Cracknell will helm the double bill that is scheduled to begin preview performances on July 26 and open on Aug. 8, 2019. The run is set to end on Sept. 29.

Tom Sturridge performs Simon Stephens’ Sea Wall,  described as “an astonishing monologue about love and the human need to know the unknowable.” Gyllenhaal does similar duty with Nick Payne’s A Life, “an emotional examination of how sons become fathers and the transformative power of love.

Gyllenhaal’s production company, Nine Stories, will produce the run, alongside the Ambassador Theatre Group, Seaview Productions, Benjamin Lowy Productions, and the Public Theater. Sea Wall/A Life will feature scenic design by Laura Jellinek, costume design by Kaye Voyce, lighting design by Guy Hoare, and original music by Stuart Earl.

Simon Stephens is known by theatre audiences for his plays Heisenberg and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. He is a Tony and Olivier Award-winning playwright. Nick Payne is an Olivier Award-winning playwright whose work includes Constellations, and If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet.
