Academy Award Winners Come to Broadway
Two beloved screen stars will be taking the Broadway stage for the first time this season. Up first, Iron Man himself and recent Oscar winner for Oppenheimer, Robert Downey Jr. is now starring in McNeal, a new play by Ayad Akhtar. One of the first shows to kick off the fall season, the Downey-led play officially opened on September 30. The other Academy Award winner making his Broadway debut this season is George Clooney. He will lead Good Night, and Good Luck, a stage adaptation of the 2005 film he directed and starred in.
Two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington will also star on Broadway this season, marking his return to the stage. The Tony Award winner will lead a new production of William Shakespeare’s Othello alongside fellow stage and screen actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

Leading Ladies of Broadway Make Grand Returns
Broadway has churned out many icons of the stage who find great success across other entertainment mediums, so it’s always exciting when they find their way back home to the stage.
After months of speculation, the theater community was abuzz when it was confirmed in May that six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald will take on the legendary role of Rose in Gypsy this fall.
Also this season, Tony winner and Wicked/Frozen favorite Idina Menzel, last seen on Broadway in If/Then a decade ago, will return to lead the brand-new original musical Redwood, scheduled to begin performances at the Nederlander Theatre this coming January.

Rising Stars Land Broadway Star Turns
Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler have been making strides on screen throughout the first half of this decade. Connor led the groundbreaking Netflix series Heartstopper, and Zegler made her theatrical talents known on screen in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story — her film debut — and followed that up with a fan-favorite turn in last year’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
Now the pair have united in their Broadway debuts this fall leading a brand-new production of Romeo + Juliet. With direction by Tony winner Sam Gold and music by Jack Antonoff, the play is already proving to be a hot ticket and a show audiences should have on their radar.

Former Girl-Group Stars Take the Stage
If you’re a Destiny’s Child or Pussycat Dolls fan, this fall on Broadway will be exciting for you.
Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams, who has been seen on Broadway before in Aida and Chicago, will grace the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in the upcoming musical adaptation of Death Becomes Her. The show will begin previews, with stage favorites Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard leading, on October 23.
Nicole Scherzinger is preparing for her Broadway close-up. Rising to fame originally as a member of the Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger first found success on the stage in London’s West End, portraying Grizabella in the 2014 production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats. Now inhabiting another iconic Lloyd Webber leading lady, Scherzinger has brought her acclaimed performance as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard to Broadway. After becoming the talk of the West End last fall for her performance in the Jamie Lloyd revival, and going on to receive an Olivier Award, it’s sure to be a much-talked-about performance on Broadway as well.

Succession Stars Storm Broadway
The cultural phenomenon Succession completed its run on HBO in 2023 and Broadway has seen many of its stars take the stage.
Earlier this year, Jeremy Strong won a Tony Award for his turn in An Enemy of the People and Julianna Canfield starred in the Tony Award-winning play Stereophonic. Currently, Peter Friedman and Sydney Lemmon star in JOB, a new thriller playing at the Hayes Theater. It doesn’t end there, though.
Kieran Culkin will star in a revival of Glengarry Glen Ross in the spring of 2025 and it’s rumored that Sarah Snook will reprise her Olivier Award-winning turn in The Picture of Dorian Gray.

More Stars to Look Out for This Season
There are even more actors we can’t wait to catch on stage in the next year. Ana Gasteyer is currently making her return to the stage alongside Sutton Foster in Once Upon a Mattress and Daniel Dae Kim is leading the Broadway premiere of Yellow Face.
After charming audiences earlier this year in Little Shop of Horrors, Darren Criss will lead a brand-new original musical Maybe Happy Ending with rising star Helen J Shen.
In the spring, we anticipate the Nick Jonas– and Adrienne Warren–led The Last Five Years will attract fans of the cult favorite musical as well as a new audience excited to see this duo take the stage. Stage legends Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga will charm theatergoers in the Broadway transfer of Old Friends, a revue celebrating Stephen Sondheim that played the West End last year.
