Summer Has Been Extended By A Year!

Have you ever wished that summer could be extended for an entire year? Theatre audiences will have that wish granted. Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, Broadway’s jukebox hit celebrating the career of disco queen Donna Summer, has announced a new block of tickets on sale through August 18, 2019.

It takes three dynamic actresses to play a music star of Summer’s caliber. The trio of dynamos currently tasked with that privilege is Tony Award winner LaChanze (The Color Purple, Once on This Island) as “Diva Donna,” Tony-nominee Ariana DeBose (A Bronx Tale, Hamilton) as “Disco Donna,” and Storm Lever (Freaky Friday) as “Duckling Donna.” Both La Chanze and DeBose received Tony-nominations for their work in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.

The cast also features Aaron Krohn as “Neil Bogart,” Ken Robinson as “Andrew Gaines,” and Jared Zirilli as “Bruce Sudano,” Angelica Beliard, Mackenzie Bell, Kaleigh Cronin, Kimberly Dodson, Anissa Felix, Drew Wildman Foster, Kendal Hartse, Afra Hines, Jenny Laroche, Wonu Ogunfowora, Rebecca Riker, Christina Acosta Robinson, Jessica Rush, Kaye Tuckerman, Harris M. Turner, Aurelia Michael, and Jody Reynard.

“She was a girl from Boston with a voice from heaven, who shot through the stars from gospel choir to dance floor diva. But what the world didn’t know was how Donna Summer risked it all to break through barriers, becoming the icon of an era and the inspiration for every music diva who followed.  With a score featuring more than 20 of Summer’s classic hits including “Love to Love You Baby,” “Bad Girls” and “Hot Stuff,” this electric experience is a moving tribute to the voice of a generation.”

Summer: The Donna Summer Musical began previews at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on March 28, 2018, opening on April 23. Coleman Domingo, Robert Cary, and Des McAnuff crafted the book for the musical around the songs of Donna Summer.  The musical is directed by Des McAnuff (The Who’s Tommy), with choreography by Sergio Trujillo (On Your Feet!).
