Sweeney Todd Revival Sets Closing Date on Broadway

It was officially revealed today that the highly-acclaimed Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street revival will end its run as scheduled this May at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The revival will play its final performance on May 5, 2024, the end of Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster’s, the current stars, limited engagement.

In addition to Tveit as Sweeney Todd and Foster as Mrs. Lovett, the current Broadway cast of Sweeney Todd features Joe Locke (Heartstopper) as Tobias, Daniel Yearwood (Hamilton) as Anthony, Tony Award winner and Laurence Olivier Award nominee Ruthie Ann Miles (The King and I) as Beggar Woman, Maria Bilbao (On Your Feet!) as Johanna, Jamie Jackson (The Last Ship) as Judge Turpin, John Rapson (Les Misérables) as Beadle Bamford, Nicholas Christopher (Hamilton) as Pirelli / Standby for Sweeney Todd, and Jeanna de Waal (Diana, The Musical) as Standby for Mrs. Lovett and Beggar Woman.

Directed by Thomas Kail, and featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, with a book by Hugh Wheeler from an adaptation by Christopher Bond, the revival first opened on Sunday, March 26, 2023, starring Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford.

The revival was originally intended to conclude in January of 2024, following the departure of Groban and Ashford, but extended its run through May 5 to welcome Tony Award winner and Grammy Award nominee Aaron Tveit as Sweeney Todd and two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster as Mrs. Lovett for a limited 12-week run.

Tickets are available now on Broadway Direct, the primary ticketing provider for Sweeney Todd.
