The Shows Must Go On to Continue with The Sound of Music Live!

Last Friday, May 15, The Shows Must Goes On concluded its Andrew Lloyd Webber weekly programming with the broadcast of Cats, along with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s live commentary. But the shows will, indeed, go on! Today, The Shows Must Go On YouTube channel announced that the series will continue with The Sound of Music Live!, branching out from its previous exclusive Andrew Lloyd Webber programming. The broadcast will stream on Friday, May 21 at 2 PM (EDT), and the recording will remain accessible for 48 hours.

The Sound of Music Live! television special was originally broadcast by NBC in December 2013. Based on the original 1959 Broadway production, the television musical features the classic tunes by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The live television production stars Carrie Underwood as Maria and Stephen Moyer as Captain Georg von Trapp. The production also features Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti, Christian Borle, and Sophia Anne Caruso among other stars of the stage and screen.

The Show Must Go On has been airing Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals for the past seven weeks. The exclusive Andrew Lloyd Webber series streamed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Webber — The Royal Albert Hall Celebration, By Jeeves, and most recently, Cats. Each broadcast had raised funds for The Actors Fund in order to help support those impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
