- The Lion King opened at the New Amsterdam Theater on November 13th, 1997. In June of 2006, it moved to the Minskoff Theater.
- The show has run for 6,946 performances (and counting), making it the 4th longest-running show in Broadway history behind Phantom of the Opera, Cats, and Chicago.
- It was nominated for eleven Tony Awards, winning six, including Best Musical.
- It is the first Broadway show to ever gross one billion dollars.
