Mother’s Day is just around the corner and what better way to celebrate the occasion than by heading to a Broadway show! Here are just a few of the musical moms currently treading the boards, in shows that could be perfect for a Mother’s Day trip.

A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical
Is your mom a Neil Diamond fan? Well…could there be a more obvious choice for a Mother’s Day musical? Neil Diamond is, of course, the center of this story, but heavily featured also are his first two wives, Jaye Posner and Marcia Murphey, played by Jessie Fisher and Robyn Hurder, the mothers of Diamond’s children. Make your way over to the Broadhurst Theatre for a Mother’s Day your mom won’t soon forget.

Stop by “Henry Street” this Mother’s Day to catch the lovable Mrs. Brice, mother to Fanny Brice, in Funny Girl. Currently played by six-time Tony Award nominee Tovah Feldshuh, your mom will be dancing along in the aisles to the lyrics “I taught her everything she knows,” sung by Mrs. Brice, a sentiment many moms might very well share.

While there are sure to be tears in the second act for any parent, visit the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Mother’s Day this year to follow along the journey of Eliza Hamilton as she becomes a mother and goes on to power through a tragic loss. If your mom hasn’t been able to see Hamilton yet, now is the perfect time to go.

One of the nominees for this year’s Best Musical Tony Award, Kimberly Akimbo tells the story of Kimberly Levaco and her dysfunctional family, which includes her pregnant narcissist mother, Pattie, who Kimberly jokingly compares to Medea. While this doesn’t sound like the prime mother-daughter example to entertain your mother with for the day, the love and acceptance found in the end, along with the joy, will make for a touching afternoon at the theatre.

For an entertaining afternoon reliving the greatest hits of The King of Pop, dance on over to the Neil Simon Theatre where the Tony Award-winning musical MJ is running. In addition to witnessing dazzling stagings of “Beat It” and “Thriller,” you’ll also get to experience an emotional rendition of “I’ll Be There,” led by the stage version of Katherine Jackson, the mother of the Jackson family.
