The musical recently opened on Sunday, July 20. Wolfe took a moment to answer 5 Questions with Broadway Direct. Find out who inspires her, why audiences should be excited about seeing JOY, and her favorite spot in New York City.

1. What inspired you to become an actor?

I watched my sister (who is 4 years older) do theatre and I always just wanted to do whatever she did. It became something my whole family enjoyed and bonded over.

2. Who in your field inspires you?

Any parent who has already done a full shift of glorious parenting, snacks, school drop-offs, and still manages to throw on a wig cap and Spanx by 2pm and show up with kindness. This work asks a lot of you. So does parenting. Anyone who balances both and still shows up with creativity and joy, is the definition of inspiring.

3. What should audiences be most excited about seeing in Joy?

A musical about a mop… and yet somehow you leave feeling empowered? Inspired? Maybe ready to start your own business? I think it surprises people because you connect with a part of yourself you left behind, and it feels… good.

4. If you didn’t need to sleep at night, what would you spend your time doing?

Well, I can tell you that I’m obsessed with interior design. I’ll find a vintage light fixture on Pinterest at 2am and it’s game over. I’m redesigning everything.

5. What is your favorite NYC spot?

I’ve just discovered Nami Nori, which has temaki that I dream about… and the best part? Postcard, the chicest gluten-free bakery, is literally next door.
