Valentines from Broadway Stars

A Valentine’s Day Love Letter From Your Favorite Stars to Their Broadway Heroes

They say long-distance makes the heart grow fonder. Some of Broadway’s biggest stars from Patti Murin to Jelani Remy shout out who they’re sending virtual hugs to this Valentine’s Day.

Betty Buckley (Hello, Dolly!)
All my valentine love goes out to five great production stage managers I’ve been blessed to work with: Ms. Denise Yaney, Mr. Robert Bennett, Mr. Jim Harker, Ms. Alisa Zeljeznjak and Ms. Michelle Tewksbury. They were always so kind, loving, supportive and funny. They all know how to make it all fun, even during the crazed moments. I love them all so much and feel a full heart of gratitude for their kindness and love. To be seen and appreciated as yourself as well as supported in your work is a profound gift. Happy Valentine’s Day, dear sweethearts! Love from me, your friend, Betty Lynn.

Laura Osnes (Bandstand)
I would love to send a Broadway valentine to my long-time dresser and backstage bestie, Tamara Kopko. Tammy and I met doing South Pacific, reunited on Bonnie & Clyde, made magic together on Cinderella, and did 26 costume changes nightly in Bandstand. I miss hanging out together in the dressing room, making nacho dip, watching movies, and drinking tea! Sending all my Broadway love to Tammy this Valentine’s Day!

Patti Murin (Frozen)
To Rich Klinger, Happy Valentine’s Day! I miss your smile and high fives very much. I just want you to know how complete you made my experience at Frozen, just by being you. Told you you’re my favorite!

Montego Glover (Hamilton)
This note is for Rachel Chavkin because experiencing her theatrical vision is magic. It has nuance, boldness and is emotionally daring all at the same time. She transports me.

Leslie Kritzer (Beetlejuice)
I’m sending out my Valentine’s Day note to Adam Dannheisser, my “stage husband” and partner in crime in Beetlejuice. I miss our laughs on and off stage. Sending you love.

Matthew Sklar (Composer, The Prom)
I’d like to send a big Broadway valentine to the one and only Angie Schworer. She’s kind, talented, beautiful, and just a great human being. I miss seeing her for a “diet bev” and “a crunch.” Happy Valentine’s Day, Ang!

Taylor Louderman (Mean Girls)
I’d like to send a valentine to my dresser on Mean Girls, Andrae Gonzalo. I miss seeing him every day and working together. He not only helped me look good for the show, but stay open-minded, kind-hearted, and focused. I learned so much from his big heart and wise words; I couldn’t have asked for a better collaborator every day. I’m so grateful.

Marc Kudisch (Girl From the North Country)
I miss my entire family from Girl From The North Country, everyone from the crew, stage management, and cast. I’d like to send out particular valentine’s wishes to Kimber Sprawl, Jeannette Bayardelle, and Mare Winningham. They are powerful women who not only give powerful performances night after night but are awesome human beings to be around. And very particular Valentine wishes to my family within the family, the amazing Luba Mason and Todd Almond. On stage, we are the Burke’s, and together we tell a challenging, complicated story, full of heart and hurt. It wouldn’t be possible without them. I miss it, I miss THEM.

George Salazar (Be More Chill, As the Curtain Rises Podcast)
I send my Valentine’s Day message to Joe Iconis! I miss making music with him in basements and on Broadway. I hope we can get back to doing that soon!

Andrew Lippa (composer, Big Fish)
Dear Cynthia Erivo, I am writing you this letter, and I hope that you will read it so you’ll know: My heart beats like a hammer, and I stutter, and I stammer, every time I see you in a Broadway show. I guess I’m just another fan of yours, and I thought I’d write and tell you so. Oh, oh… From Andrew Lippa (with thanks and apologies to James V. Monaco and Joseph McCarthy)

Lauren Patten (Jagged Little Pill)
My valentine is for our stage doorman at the Broadhurst Theatre, Ernie. I miss him every day! He treats every member of our company with deep love and care, like his own family. Now Ernie is like my family, too. I love you, bud!

Jelani Remy (Ain’t Too Proud)
My Broadway valentine goes to none other than one of my producers, Ira Pittelman. This has been a running joke between us so it is fitting. Also, he is a very special person and I am so grateful for his support! Cheers to you Ira! From, Your Funny Valentine

Presley Ryan (Beetlejuice)
For my valentine, I’m writing it to Shoshana Bean because she has always been so supportive of me and is someone I look up to!

Christiane Noll (Dear Evan Hansen)
Dear Broadway Audiences, You make every day unpredictable and more exciting. You lift me up when I don’t know how I feel. You remind me how wonderful sharing an emotion, a song, a dance, a story can be, with your bright eyes and enthusiastic voices. You hold the space for magic to occur, for you are the last ingredient in this mystical, marvelous soup we call theater! It is empty without you! Will you be my valentine, again?

Sierra Boggess (School of Rock)
I am sending a virtual valentine to Kate Egan, who is a general manager extraordinaire and who was my company manager for School of Rock on Broadway. People don’t realize how much the folks behind the scenes do to make sure everything is running smoothly, check-in with the actors, take care of the company. KRE, I love you, miss you, and grateful for all you do. Can’t wait to help make your life crazy busy again when Broadway reopens!

Sean Allan Krill (Jagged Little Pill)
This year, I’m sending a little Valentine’s Day love to Danny Burstein. I don’t know him well, but I did know his late wife Rebecca, and I know the pain of losing a longtime partner.  As we take a day to celebrate those we love the most, my heart goes out to Danny, and to anyone else in the Broadway community who may be without their special someone this year. Happy Valentine’s Day, Danny.

Jackie Burns (Wicked)
I’d like to send a virtual valentine to my lady love, Dee Roscioli. She always knows the right thing to say and is the most fun ever (not to mention her crazy talent and good looks). What can I say, I have great taste!

Drew Gasparini (Composer, The Karate Kid; Now We’re Talking Podcast)
I’m sending this valentine to Nick Cordero because even though he is no longer with us, he was a sweetheart to our beloved stages. He will be missed and is forever loved!
