Flying Over Sunset Cast

Casting Complete for LCT’s Flying Over Sunset

Flying Over Sunset, the new musical set to open this spring courtesy of Lincoln Center Theatre, has announced complete casting for the production. Joining the already announced Carmen Cusack (Bright Star), Harry Hadden-Paton (My Fair Lady) and Tony Yazbek (On the Town) will be Erika Henningsen, Jeremy Kushnier, Emily Pyenburg, Michele Ragusa, Robert Sella, Laura Shoop, and Atticus Ware.

Erika Henningsen currently stars in the Broadway musical hit Mean Girls, playing the role Cady Heron. She has also appeared on Broadway as Fantine in the recent revival of Les Miserables. Jeremy Kushnier starred in the 2018 jukebox musical Head Over Heels, played Ren McCormack in the original Broadway cast of Footloose and was a replacement Roger in Rent. Emily Pyenburg played Cassandra In the 2016 revival of Cats.  Among Michele Ragusa’s Broadway credits are Titanic, A Class Act, Urinetown, and Young Frankenstein. Robert Sella has appeared on Broadway in My Fair Lady (1993 revival), Cabaret, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (among others). Laura Shoop graced the Great White Way in Oklahoma!, Fiddler on the Roof, and She Loves Me. Atticus Ware makes his Broadway debut with Flying Over Sunset.

Flying Over Sunset begins previews at the Vivian Beaumont Theater March 12 with an official opening set for April 16. The piece features a book and direction by James Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods). The music will be by Tony winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and lyrics by Tony nominee Michael Korie (Grey Gardens). Michelle Dorrance, in her Broadway debut, choreographs. Scenic design for Flying Over Sunset will be by Tony winner Beowulf Boritt, costume design by three-time Tony nominee Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by two-time Tony winner Bradley King, and sound design by five-time Tony nominee Dan Moses Schrier.

Flying Over Sunset is inspired by real-life creative types Aldous Huxley (author of Brave New World), Clare Booth Luce (politician and author of the play The Women), and Cary Grant (movie star) who experimented with LSD during the 1950s. Before the drug was declared an illegal substance, many people partook in LSD. The musical will explore the effects the drug took on those who did. Flying Over Sunset brings all three of these personalities together and examines the journeys they take under the drug’s influence.
