Funny Girl‘s Julie Benko to Take Over Broadway Direct Instagram

Julie Benko

Hey Instagram, here she is! Julie Benko has had a whirlwind year on Broadway, starting off as the Fanny Brice standby and going on to have played the role numerous times to much praise, including a short stint as the full-time lead. On Sunday, February 19, Benko will take Broadway Direct’s Instagram followers behind-the-scenes of a not-so-typical Broadway two-show day. Make sure you’re following the Broadway Direct Instagram to catch all the fun!

Benko will show us life backstage as a standby, as she is not scheduled to perform in the first show of the day, before later in the day transitioning into Fanny as she stars in the second show of the day. Make sure to follow Broadway Direct on Instagram to get a look at Benko’s day backstage at the August Wilson Theatre.

In addition to Benko, Funny Girl currently stars Lea Michele as Fanny Brice, Tovah Feldshuh as Mrs. Brice, Ramin Karimloo as Nick Arnstein, and Jared Grimes as Eddie Ryan. They are joined by Peter Francis James, Ephie Aardema, Debra Cardona, Toni DiBuono, Martin Moran.

This bittersweet comedy is the story of the indomitable Fanny Brice, a girl from the Lower East Side who dreamed of a life on the stage. Everyone told her she’d never be a star, but then something funny happened—she became one of the most beloved performers in history, shining brighter than the brightest lights of Broadway. Featuring some of the most iconic songs in theatre history including “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” and “People,” Michael Mayer’s bold new production marks the first time Funny Girl has returned to Broadway since its debut 58 years ago.
