The buzzy revival of William Shakespeare’s Othello is officially open on Broadway. Starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, the new production directed by Kenny Leon opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on March 23, 2025, and Broadway Direct was there to capture highlights of the evening.
Special guests at the opening night included former U.S. President Joe Biden and former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Jennifer Lopez, Jamie Lee Curtis, Martha Stewart, Samuel L. Jackson, Katie Holmes, Ariana DeBose, and more.
In addition to Washington as Othello and Gyllenhaal as Iago, the cast features Molly Osborne as Desdemona, Tony Award winner Andrew Burnap as Cassio, Anthony Michael Lopez as Roderigo, Daniel Pearce as Brabantio, and Kimber Elayne Sprawl as Emilia. Othello is now playing a limited engagement through June 8, 2025.
