Social Media Icon Cameron Dallas Joins Mean Girls

Fans of social media will be excited to learn that Cameron Dallas is joining the hit Broadway production Mean Girls for a limited engagement this January. Dallas, an icon of the web and the subject of a Netflix documentary series, will play the role of Aaron Samuels for a four-week stint starting January 14, 2020. He will take over in the role while current performer Kyle Selig takes a leave of absence from the production at the August Wilson Theatre.

Mean Girls producers shared their enthusiasm for Dallas’s arrival in the show, “Cameron is a tremendously talented young performer. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the cast of Mean Girls and know he will be as captivating on stage as he is on screens all over the world.”

Cameron Dallas is a musician and social media entrepreneur and pioneer who rose to fame through his creative use of Vine, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, where he has over 40 million combined followers. Dallas made his mark in the fashion space by starring in campaigns for iconic brands such as Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabanna and Carolina Herrera. In 2016, he starred in and executive produced a documentary series for Netflix called “Chasing Cameron.” Dallas signed with Columbia Records in 2018 and released his first single with the label “Why Haven’t I Met You?” in the same year. Now in its second year on Broadway, Mean Girls is based on the popular film of the same name written by Emmy-winner Tina Fey. Fey adapted the screenplay for the stage production, with three-time Emmy Award winner Jeff Richmond providing the music and two-time Tony Award nominee Nell Benjamin the lyrics. Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs.

“Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.”

The current cast of Mean Girls features Erika Henningsen as Cady Heron, Reneé Rapp as Regina George, Krystina Alabado as Gretchen Wieners, Kate Rockwell as Karen Smith, Barrett Wilbert Weed as Janis Sarkisian, Grey Henson as Damian Hubbard, Catherine Brunell as Mrs. Heron / Ms. Norbury / Mrs. George, Kyle Selig as Aaron Samuels, Cheech Manohar as Kevin Gnapoor and Rick Younger as Mr. Duvall.
