Some Like It Hot

Some Like It Hot Musical To Premiere in Chicago

Some Like It Hot, the new musical based on the 1959 classic MGM film comedy of the same name, will receive its pre-Broadway premiere at Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre. Performances for the new musical, adapted from Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond’s farcical screenplay, will run from March 2 – April 4, 2021. A Broadway berth for Some Like It Hot will be announced at a later date.

The new stage adaptation of Some Like It Hot is produced by Broadway In Chicago, The Shubert Organization and Neil Meron. It will feature a score by Marc Shaiman (music) and Scott Wittman (lyrics), the duo behind such Broadway scores as Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Matthew Lopez, represented this season on Broadway with the two-part play The Inheritance, provides the musical’s book. Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin) will both direct and choreograph.

“Set in Chicago when Prohibition has everyone thirsty for a little excitement, Some Like It Hot is the rollicking story of two musicians forced to flee the Windy City after witnessing a mob hit. With gangsters hot on their heels, they’re on the run as the newest members of the swingingest big band ever to cross the country. Can they hide in plain sight without completely losing themselves? Or will the mob, the truth, and maybe even love itself finally catch up to them?”

“Broadway In Chicago” was created in July 2000 and over the past 20 years has grown to be one of the largest commercial touring homes in the country.  A Nederlander Presentation, Broadway In Chicago lights up the Chicago Theater District entertaining more than 1.7 million people annually in five theatres.  Broadway In Chicago presents a full range of entertainment, including musicals and plays, on the stages of five of the finest theatres in Chicago’s Loop including CIBC Theatre, James M. Nederlander Theatre, Cadillac Palace Theatre, and just off the Magnificent Mile, the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place and presenting Broadway shows at the Auditorium Theatre.

The 1959 film of Some Like It Hot, directed and produced by Billy Wilder, was named by The American Film Institute as the #1 film comedy of all time. Starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, and Marilyn Monroe, the film was nominated for six Academy Awards.
