The star of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical took some time to answer 5 questions with Broadway Direct, telling us who inspires her daily, which rising star to keep an eye on, and where her favorite New York spot is.

1. What inspired you to become an actor?
My older sister paved the way as a dancer first. I think I originally got thrown into performing arts classes because it was convenient for my parents to take all the kids to the same place. But gosh, my whole family benefited!

2. Who in your field inspires you?

My Kimberly Akimbo cast inspires me daily! It’s such a unique and authentic group of artists. And our creative team – Jeanine Tesori, David Lindsay-Abaire, Danny Mefford, Jessica Stone, Chris Fenwick…being in the same room as all of them has deeply influenced me as an artist.

Audiences will be most excited about all the laughter and tears they are about to shed! This show has so much heart and humor. And they will LOVE rooting for Kimberly! Also, keep an eye out for newcomer Justin Cooley who is making his Broadway debut. His star is on the rise!

4. If you didn’t need to sleep at night, what would you spend your time doing?

Well gosh, if I didn’t need to sleep at night, I’m assuming anything is possible…I would teleport myself all over the world! Travel without all the flight delays and layovers!

5. What is your favorite NYC spot?

My favorite NYC spot is my bed! Broadway is hard work and I love hitting my pillow at the end of the night. I also just love people watching throughout the city. I never know what I might find that I can put into a character I play.
