For a special 17-performance stint (August 17-August 31), Grammy Award-winning Performer Brandy Norwood will return to the Broadway production of the long-running musical hit Chicago. This will not be the first time that Norwood has appeared in the Kander and Ebb tuner, having played the aspiring vaudeville star-turned-murderess Roxie Hart on Broadway in 2015. She then reprised her performance in Los Angeles and Washington D.C., receiving acclaim with the Chicago national tour.
A star of stage, music, and television, Brandy Norwood has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. Her debut album, featuring the hit single “I Wanna Be Down,” went multi-platinum. “The Boy Is Mine” was the best-selling song in the US upon its release, spending 13 weeks on the top of the hot 100. The song also won a 1998 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Brandy starred in her own sitcom, Moesha, and made history in Disney’s television film Cinderella as its first black princess, starring alongside her icon Whitney Houston.
“Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart (Norwood), a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.”
Ms. Norwood will play the following performances on Broadway:
