How to Watch the 2020 Tony Awards

The long-awaited 74th Annual Tony Awards are finally here! This year’s Tony Awards ceremony that would have occurred in 2020 normally, will air on Sunday, September 26, 2021. A huge celebration marking the return of Broadway will include the annual awards ceremony as well as an extended selection of Broadway performances in a special titled The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back!

In the era of streaming, not everyone has access to a TV with CBS, the network the awards have aired on for years. Never fear though, there is an option to watch everything from the awards ceremony to the Broadway’s Back! special.

Broadway’s Night of Nights will kick off with the live presentation of the American Theatre Wing’s 74th Annual Tony Awards on Sunday, September 26 at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST, live exclusively on Paramount+. The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back! will air on the CBS Television Network, and be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+ and the CBS app Sunday, September 26 from 9 to 11 p.m. EST/delayed PST.

The 74th Annual Tony Awards ceremony begins at 7 p.m. EST and will stream exclusively on Paramount+. Don’t have Paramount+? Now is the time! While a subscription can cost money, a one-week free trial is available to new members. With this, you will not only have access to the Tony Awards at 7 p.m. but also Broadway’s Back! which begins at 9 p.m. This option makes it easy for all to stream from the comfort of your couch.

Hosted by Audra McDonald, the streaming presentation will honor the outstanding shows, performances, and artistry of the 2019–2020 Broadway season, which was brought to a halt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back! will be available to watch on Paramount+ as well as the CBS Television Network and the CBS app (with a TV provider) when it starts airing at 9 p.m. You can also access this special event through live TV streaming services such as Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV, both offering free trials.

In the event, Leslie Odom, Jr. hosts a program that will bring the excitement of Broadway to viewers through a live concert event featuring superstar Broadway entertainers and Tony Award-winners reuniting on stage to perform beloved classics and celebrate the joy and magic of live theatre. The concert will celebrate the re-opening of Broadway with special performances from the three Tony-nominated Best Musical contenders, followed by the live presentation of three Tony Awards, including Best Play, Best Revival of a Play, and Best Musical. Other winners will be celebrated throughout the broadcast.

It’s been nearly a year since the nominations and even longer since you may have seen these performances live, so make sure to refresh your memory with our 2020 Tony Awards Preview.

The 74th Annual Tony Awards and The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back! will take place live from the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City on Sunday, September 26 on the CBS Television Network and will be hosted by Audra McDonald and Leslie Odom Jr.

The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
