Megan Thee Stallion is the latest Grammy Award–winning music star to headline a Broadway stage. In honor of her Broadway debut, here’s a breakdown of music superstars — from pop sensations to singer-songwriters — who have the prestigious credit to their names.

Upcoming: Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical (2026)

Freestyle rapping on social media led Megan Thee Stallion to sign her first record deal. Her 2019 breakout hit, “Big Ole Freak,” was followed by “Hot Girl Summer” and “Savage.” She made history at the 2021 Grammy Awards by becoming the first female rapper to win Best New Artist in over 20 years. She will soon make her Broadway debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical beginning performances March 24. Her new album, Megan: Act III, is expected to drop later this year. Tickets are now available through July 26, 2026.

At 13 years old in 2004, JoJo made history as the youngest solo artist to have a No. 1 single on the Billboard charts with “Leave (Get Out).” The singer and songwriter turned to acting in movies, from Aquamarine to RV, opposite Robin Williams in 2006. JoJo is currently performing on the Too Much to Say Tour, but is set to make her Broadway return this June in Chess opposite Aaron Tveit and Nicholas Christopher. She will be replacing Lea Michele, who is set to depart the role on June 21. Tickets are now on sale through September 13, 2026.

Michelle Williams was a member of Destiny’s Child with Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland. Williams joined the already established girl group in 2000, contributing to their most commercially successful era with hits like “Independent Women Part I” and “Survivor.” She won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals for “Survivor” in 2002. After a brief stint in the group Eden’s Crush, Nicole Scherzinger rose to global superstardom as the lead singer and face of The Pussycat Dolls, fronting massive hits like “Don’t Cha” and “Buttons.” Nicole has since become a judge on The X Factor and The Masked Singer. She is set to star in the musical comedy film Girl Group, which is slated for a 2026 release.

Broadway credits: Chicago (Roxie Hart, 2016–2017), Rent (Mimi Marquez, 2004)

Melanie Brown — better known as Mel B — was a member of the 1990s girl group Spice Girls, with the famous nickname “Scary Spice.” Hit songs included “Wannabe” and “Stop.” In the decades since, she served as a judge on major talent competitions like America’s Got Talent. Most recently, she returned as a judge for the landmark 20th season of America’s Got Talent and was announced as a competitor in the upcoming Netflix reality series Squid Game: The VIP Challenge.

Joey Fatone

Joey Fatone was a member of *NSYNC, one of the most successful ’90s boy bands. With over 70 million records sold, hit songs included “It’s Gonna Be Me.” His most recent Grammy Award nomination was in 2025 for “Better Place” from Trolls Band Together. He has since pivoted back to the stage, reprising his role as Lance in the North American tour of & Juliet and headlining Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras alongside Backstreet Boy AJ McLean.

Nick Jonas became a teen icon as the youngest member of The Jonas Brothers. “S.O.S.” was the boy band’s first recorded single in 2007. The group reinvented themselves more than a decade later with their comeback hit “Sucker,” reaching No. 1 on the charts. In early 2026, he released his fifth solo album, Sunday Best, and starred alongside Paul Rudd in the musical comedy film Power Ballad.

Brandy’s first big hit was “I Wanna Be Down,” released in 1994, followed by “The Boy Is Mine” with Monica. She won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals for “The Boy Is Mine” in 1999. Her career expanded into acting on the sitcom Moesha. She also starred in the title role in the 1997 made-for-TV movie musical of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella alongside Whitney Houston. Her memoir, Phases, will be released on March 31.

Carly Rae Jepsen’s 2012 breakout hit, “Call Me Maybe,” spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. She will release her seventh studio album this year and is planning an international tour starting in July.

Fantasia Barrino entered the pop culture spotlight as a contestant on the third season of American Idol in 2004. Her American Idol coronation song, “I Believe,” debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100. She won a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “Bittersweet” in 2011. Barrino made her feature film debut as Celie in The Color Purple in 2023. The singer is headlining the Rock Soul Tour alongside Anthony Hamilton this spring. She is also set to star in the upcoming Netflix holiday film Tyler Perry’s The Gospel of Christmas.

Toni Braxton’s “Un-Break My Heart” (1996) was her biggest hit, spending 11 weeks at the top of the charts. She has won seven Grammy Awards throughout her career. Most recently, the joint album Love, Marriage & Divorce with Babyface took the prize for Best R&B Album in 2015. She is currently on The New Edition Way Tour, a 30-city North American arena run alongside New Edition and Boyz II Men that began in January.

Sara Bareilles

Broadway credits: Into the Woods (The Baker’s Wife, 2022), Waitress (producer, composer, and lyricist, and Jenna actress, starting in 2016).

Sara Bareilles secured her first major hit in 2007 with “Love Song.” It was part of her debut major-label album, Little Voice. The song reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Bareilles made her Broadway debut as the composer and lyricist for Waitress, which opened on Broadway in 2016. Bareilles has two Grammy Awards: Best American Roots Performance for “Saint Honesty” in 2020 and Best Musical Theater Album for Into the Woods in 2023. She is currently developing the new musical The Interestings, adapted from Meg Wolitzer’s novel.


Ariana Grande

Broadway credit: 13 (Charlotte, 2008)

Unlike many pop stars with big hits who then debuted on Broadway, Ariana Grande did the reverse. She made her Broadway debut in 13 back in 2008 at 15 years old. Then, in 2009, Grande joined the Nickelodeon family on Victorious and Sam & Cat. Grande’s first album, Yours Truly, was released in 2013. She has three Grammy Awards, including one from this year: Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Defying Gravity” with Cynthia Erivo. Grande’s most recent role was playing Glinda in Wicked and Wicked: For Good, her feature film debut.


Sabrina Carpenter

Broadway credit: Mean Girls (Cady Heron, 2020)

Sabrina Carpenter was on Broadway (for two performances only, cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic) before she became a household name. Her career started on the Boy Meets World spinoff, Girl Meets World. “Please Please Please” became her first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2024. Carpenter is currently on the final leg of her Short n’ Sweet Tour. She’s set to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April.

Reneé Rapp

Broadway credit: Mean Girls (Regina George, 2019–2020)

Reneé Rapp started her career as a teenager, winning the Jimmy Awards in 2019. Casting directors took notice of her talent and she was cast as Regina George in Mean Girls on Broadway. A few years later, her debut album, Snow Angel, skyrocketed her career as a pop star. In 2022, “Too Well” became her breakout hit. In 2024, Rapp was cast as Regina George yet again, this time in the movie-musical adaptation of Mean Girls. She’s currently headlining the Bite Me Tour through spring.
