Masquerade
From iconic composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tony Award–winning director Diane Paulus comes Masquerade, an immersive Phantom of the Opera production. Currently running on West 57th Street, the experience invites masked guests inside the Paris Opera House, where they move through the story of the mysterious Phantom and Christine, the opera’s ingénue. The production also offers ADA-accessible pathways throughout the experience.

Burnout Paradise
Unlike anything you’ve seen before, Burnout Paradise features four treadmills and five performers racing against the clock. Running at the Astor Place Theatre, the show is highly interactive, as performers attempt to complete a series of escalating tasks—like cooking a three-course meal or filling out a grant application—all while running. Audience members are frequently brought onstage to help, whether holding props or taking photos, both crucial to completing the challenges. If the performers fail to complete all the tasks, theatregoers are entitled to a refund.

Speakeasy Magick
Speakeasy Magick is an intimate immersive magic show featuring a rotating cast of New York City magicians and illusionists. Guests must be at least 21 years old to attend. Located at The Overlook Bar, the venue evokes a speakeasy atmosphere blending the Roaring ’20s, film noir, and cabaret. Magicians perform close-up tricks at small tables, often just inches away from audience volunteers.

The Gazillion Bubble Show
New World Stages is home to several productions, including The Gazillion Bubble Show. This family-friendly interactive show transforms bubbles into visual spectacle, incorporating lasers, lighting, and audience participation. At approximately one hour with no intermission, it’s well suited for children ages 2 and up.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Also at New World Stages, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee invites audience members to participate directly in the action. Volunteers can sign up before the show for a chance to join the cast onstage as guest spellers. Up to four participants are selected per performance.

Every Brilliant Thing
Every Brilliant Thing is a solo show where audience interaction is central to the storytelling. Audience members are invited to participate throughout the performance, though participation is optional. Mariska Hargitay is scheduled to take over the role beginning May 26.

CATS: The Jellicle Ball
This inventive reimagining transforms Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical CATS into an electrifying ballroom extravaganza, where competitors from New York’s queer ballroom scene vie for the ultimate crown. With runway-side seating and guest judges, CATS: The Jellicle Ball places audiences at the center of the action. It blends Broadway with ballroom culture, encouraging guests to cheer, clap, and engage with the performance.

Just In Time
Circle in the Square Theatre is home to Just In Time, a musical centered on legendary singer Bobby Darin. The production creates an intimate nightclub setting, complete with a live band, placing audiences close to the action for an immersive experience.

The Rocky Horror Show
Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show, playing at Studio 54, brings the cult-favorite rock ’n’ roll musical to life with performers including Rachel Dratch, Andrew Durand, and Amber Gray. The show is known for its audience callouts and participation moments. During “Time Warp,” select audience members are invited onstage to join the performance.
