The Shows Must Go On to Air The Phantom of the Opera

Two weeks ago, Andrew Lloyd Webber announced that he would be joining the ranks of streaming opportunities during the pandemic by airing one of his beloved musicals every Friday on his new YouTube channel, The Shows Must Go On. On Friday April 3, the weekly series kicked off with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and was followed by access to a performance of Jesus Christ Superstar this past Friday, April 10.

Each show begins streaming on the channel on Fridays at 2 PM (EDT) and remains accessible for 48 hours.

This week, The Shows Must Go On will be airing a fan-favorite, the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic, The Phantom of the Opera. This 2011 production, recorded for the 25th anniversary of Phantom’s original 1986 opening on Broadway, was performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and stars Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom and Sierra Boggess as Christine. The musical, set in the Paris Opera House, tells the story of the Phantom’s obsession with his beautiful protégée, Christine. The production will air this Friday, April 17 at 2 PM (EDT) and will be available for 48 hours. This livestream event, free on YouTube, will encourage viewer donations to The Actors Fund.

Now in its 31st year, The Phantom of the Opera is Broadway’s longest-running musical and the musical that all others are measured against. The timeless story, the unforgettable score, an undeniable obsession that could never die. The haunting love story has captivated New York and the world.  Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mesmerizing score, along with jaw-dropping scenery and breathtaking special effects, magically combine to bring this tragic love story to life.
