- The revival of The King and I opened at the Uris Theatre (since renamed the Gershwin) on May 2nd, 1977.
- The show starred Yul Brynner, returning to the role of the King of Siam, a role he originated in the original production, which ran from 1951 to 1954.
- The show ran for nearly 700 performances as was nominated for three Drama Desk Awards, including a nomination for Angela Lansbury, who replaced Constance Towers as Anna Leonowens.
