The original production of Urinetown opened at Henry Miller’s Theatre (now the Stephen Sondheim Theatre) on September 20th, 2001.

  • The show ran for 965 performances before closing on January 18th, 2004.
  • At the 2002 Tony Awards, it was nominated for ten Tony Awards, winning three for Best Book of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
  • The show starred a who’s who of Broadway stars, including Hunter Foster, John Cullum, Jeff McCarthy, Nancy Opel, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Jennifer Cody, and Ken Jennings.
