Chess will begin performances on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, with an opening night set for Sunday, November 16, 2025.

What is Chess on Broadway about?

Chess is the iconic musical where power and passion collide, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. It’s America versus Russia at the World Chess Championship, where the espionage and romance are as complicated and exhilarating as the game itself. For the two players and the woman torn between them, everything—personal, professional, and political—is at risk… and nobody’s rules are the same.

Who is on the creative team of Chess on Broadway?

Chess will feature a new book by Emmy Award winner Danny Strong. With music and lyrics by Emmy and Tony Award nominees ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus and Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award winner Tim Rice, and based on an idea by Tim Rice, this new production will be directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer and choreographed by Drama Desk Award nominee Lorin Latarro, with music supervision by Brian Usifer.

The revival will feature scenic design by Tony Award winner David Rockwell, costume design by Tom Broecker, lighting design by four-time Tony Award winner Kevin Adams, sound design by John Shivers, and video design by Tony Award nominee Peter Nigrini. Johanna McKeon will serve as Associate Director and Travis Waldschmidt will serve as Associate Choreographer.

When will the cast recording for Chess on Broadway be released?

There hasn’t been a release date announced yet, but Chess the Musical has released teasers for two songs – Aaron Tveit singing “One Night in Bangkok” and Nicholas Christopher singing “Where I Want To Be”.
