Titaníque

Perhaps taking the broadest definition of “adaptation” on this list, Titaníque parodies the 1997 film Titanic. The musical retells the film’s famous story of Jack and Rose from the perspective of legendary vocalist Céline Dion, fittingly featuring a jukebox score of Céline Dion’s music. Titaníque premiered Off-Broadway in 2022, playing at the Asylum Theatre and the Daryl Roth Theatre before transferring to Broadway this season, where it opened April 12 at the St. James Theatre for a limited engagement through July 12, 2026. The production features a star-studded cast including Frankie Grande, Jim Parsons, and Deborah Cox. Titaníque also stars its co-writers, Marla Mindelle and Constantine Rousouli, as Céline Dion and Jack Dawson.

Beaches

While Beaches is technically an adaptation of the 1985 novel by Iris Rainer Dart, many instead recall this story from the 1988 film adaptation that starred Bette Midler. The story follows the unlikely lifelong friendship between two women, the flamboyant performer Cee Cee Bloom and the put-together Bertie White, who meet on a beach as children. The musical had its world premiere in 2014 and has arrived on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre, where it will open on April 22, 2026. It stars Kelli Barrett as Bertie and Jessica Vosk as Cee Cee, and marks Vosk’s first time originating a leading role on Broadway.
