- The original production of Nine opened at the 46th Street Theatre (since renamed the Richard Rodgers) on May 9th, 1982.
- The show starred Raul Julia and was directed by Tommy Tune.
- The show ran for over 700 performances and was nominated for twelve Tony Awards, including three nominations in the same category, Featured Actress in a Musical.
- The show won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, besting fellow nominees Dreamgirls, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Pump Boys and Dinettes.
